Hi,

Just after a quick bit of advice. My new/old stock interior rear view mirror arrived today, so tomorrow I want to fit it, of course. It's really to fit an LCV, but hopefully the only differences are that the arm is longer and the mirror itself a bit larger - neither is a problem so long as it will fit in the existing "socket" at the top of the windscreen.

My question - how do I remove the existing arm from this socket? Just pull hard? I'm worried about cracking the plastic socket if I do this, and they are unobtainable. Should I perhaps use some gentle hair-dryer heat? Can I remove the socket piece? How? I don't want to have to go behind the headlining if I can help it.....!

Any tips gratefully recieved as ever!

Rick, what did actually come with the mirror? The guy at BMMC mentioned that some of the bits weren't compatable...? The cap you have pictured comes off to leave the mounting behind which is screwed to the header rail. You should be able to gently prise the cap off then unscrew 2 screws to remove the mount. The mirror arm can then be gently persuaded out by twisting/pullig etc.... carefully

Thanks for that - the mirror came with the mirror body itself, and the arm, which has a sucker on it. The top part (shown in photo) is not available, I have to re-use the old one.

Thanks PSL - did what you said, and it went on just fine - all done now! You're becoming something like my "rear view mirror" guru, aren't you!

Here are the new and old mirrors before fitting - as you can see, the old one was very tatty - the plastic is just turning to dust! Also, you can see how that the "new" one is a little larger, and the arm is a bit longer, but it seems to look and work just fine on the car - brilliant!
