Type9 spigot

Hi Guys

In the middle of my type 9 conversion on a 1275 sprite engine.

How is the spigot bearing meant to locate... I have a top hat type arrangement with the spigot in the center. Am I meant to drift the "brim" into the centre bore of the flywheel? It will definately be a tight interference fit there! Its a loose interference fit in the bore on the crank.

Also is it absolutely nessesairy to remove the A series spigot, it looks like this will just go over the top

Cheers :)

As far as I know Matt - it goes in the flywheel - but surely the supplier can tell you ? Hard to imagine it just hangs in there by interference - I would want to stitch weld it too!

Supplier = WPR638B or whatever his number is (Carlo) ;)

Well - I can only suggest you ask him! You gonna post up some pics of 'how to' do this Matt ?

They just drift into the flywheel and are held in by interfierence.

Even when the flywheel gets hot in use ?

Cheers MH

I put the spigot arangement into the crank, put the flywheel on and forced them together using the flywheel bolts.

BMC - its a blinkin tight fit and the spigot housing is made from ally :s

Ahh -so in theory it should expand more and get tighter when the flywheel gets hot. And if it's on the inside and held by the bolts it should be fine !

No bolts holding it in, its just pushed into the bore of the flywheel.

Ahh - but you said 'forced them together with the flywheel bolts' - so is it now trapped in there by the flywheel - which is held by it's bolts?

Instead of knocking it in with a drift/socket I used the force of the 6 bolts to pull it in to place. There is nothing "trapping" the spigot housing in place except the friction on the interface between the 2 (walls of the bore)

Indeed its a very tight fit and considering there should be no force pulling it out I see no reason at all why it would go anywhere.

Me neither - i'm just trying to understand how it works - a picture would be great!

It looks as if you have worked this out for yourself Matt! :D
Yes, it just fits in the bore of the flywheel and is also located in the end of the crank from memory and is just an interference fit. Mine has been in place for over 50,000 miles now and is still ok :D
I must just say that the kit i sold Matt was one i purchased for a project that is no longer going ahead and it is NOT a kit i have made myself!!! :o :o  Just thought i should clarify that!! :o

Carlo, while your looking, dpes the gearbox mount take an M12 bolt? Or do I need an M10 with a nut on the top?

I have found that the front end of a capri propshaft fits perfectly on the rear end of a marina one and the marina center bearing fits perfectly on the ford shaft :). Its close enough to the right length as far as I can tell - will comment again when its all bolted up
