Can someone direct me where to look for the earthing point.

The indicators work fine,(1970) but when the brake pedal is pressed the indicators stop working, I have replaced the indicator relay, which actually had a hole burned in the side of it!!.

Thanks

The rear lights have wires coming into the boot area - one is black and should be connected to the car body - usually at the bumper bar mounts. Check the wires and the connections - must be to good clean steel.

OK, my findings are: Indicate right all works oK.

Indicate left, the relay click once then goes out, but the indicators flash rapidly, but go out when brake is pressed. how do they flash when the relay box isn't clicking?

There is no 'relay box' - it's just the flasher unit - and the clicking noise is there as an indication all is well. Obviously the problem lies in the left hand indicator unit - almost certainly the rear, but just cahnce it could be the front. Check the rear first!

Found it Thanks BMC!!

Although it wasn't the earth point you sent me in the right direction.

The 4 wires that leave the light cluster and go across the boot area, something heavy must have fallen on the loom because under the cloth braiding all 4 cables had nicks in them with the black cut right through.

Thanks
