Waaaaaax oil

Decided to restore my baby to its former glory over the winter. But the clever person before me sprayed the whole engine bay with waxoil but now i would like to remove it! Does anyone have any idea how i could dissolve the waxoil or ways of getting it off???? your helpwould be ,uchly appreciated -adum-

Go into your local tyre dealers and ask if you can ''borrow'' some BUFFSOL it comes in aerosols and 1/2 litre tins it should shift the waxoil no problem.

So what does this stuff do, dissolve the waxoil ? does it harm the paintwork and are there any special precautions to be taken when using it.

sorry should have explained better, yes use gloves and don't get it in your eyes but if you stand back spray a small area to test it it should ''melt '' the wax away. The inside of a tyre has a waxy substance to protect the butyl liner and this product cleans it up a treat...good enough to glue a patch on without added mechanical buffing. Are you anywhere near STONE in staffs?

can anyone recomend a insurance company for a morris 1000 that I am about to aquire, I have at present a LDM 1967 Ambulance, and I am a member of the Morris Commercial Club

When waxing the underside of mine I managed to unintentionally get it everywhere! (The "pressure sprayer" is just that...) As it wasn't my garage I had to do a bit of quick thinking to get it off! Citrus degreaser seemed to work quite well but the waxoyl was still pretty fresh, which could be a factor. Could be worth a try though as it's a lot less toxic than the "shut your eyes, hold your breath, spray & run" stuff that is talked about earlier.... Wurth do one called "Industrie clean" which I used but there are loads of them about. Let us know how you get on if you try it. Cheers.

You could try white sprits - it might work..... failing that you could run the engine and let it drip off ;)

I think White spirit only works when it's soft as they tell you to flush out the spray hoses with that & it wouldn't unblock mine when I accidentally left it too long to clean them. It's only an oil based wax so any degreaser should be able to take it off you would think, if citrus is no use try Gunk or similar.
I spose then we're moving back into the realms of the gloves etc nasties though!
