I want to buy a pair of clip-on quarterlight mirrors for my daughter's 1965 2-door saloon as a Christmas present. There seem to be several types to choose from. Are they any good? Do they cause any problems with the windows? Any recommendations please.

They very easily clip right off again! Generally too close to the driver to be any use in my opinion - I much prefer my 'wing' mirrors!

I have to say my wife uses them on her daily car and even she can see what's behind her.... so can't be too bad

I fitted one to my Stag quarterlight as a supplement to the completely useless door mirrors which are designed to be too far back to be any use! I have found it invaluable

try mini one4s that clip on to the front gutter

Door mirrors are lower down and furthr out than the clip-on mirrors. They also have cleverly shaped glass to eliminate blank spots. I really do find the old wing mirrors are ideal - can clearly see all that's necessary on each side - and with minimal shift of eye from the road. But main worry with clip-ons is that neds/chavs will just clip them right off!

Not clip on ones but I've seen some that where mounted through the chome on the bottom of the quarterlight, looked smart and according to the owner work as well as his modern cars ones. (No holes to drill in your lovely bodywork)

I hacksawed the mirror brackets about and silver soldered the mounting base to the triangular section in front of the quarter light.
Could be bigger but you get used to them.

On the near side the door/quarter light mirror can be quite useful as you can still see into it easily and also if you have the 'claphands' wipers they sometimes don't go down far enough and end up obscuring the N/S wing mirror anyway.

Actually - the clap-hands wipers are MORE likely to wipe right to the edge of the screen. I don't understand why BMC changed away from them. My modern Meriva has calp hands wipers - and they are great!

Yes, but your Meriva ones overlap in the middle and wipe the centre of the screen.... All I get is the same amount of vision equal to the ancient "Aero Screens" !!!!

Wing mirrors with convex glass are best unless you object to drilling holes in your wings. Flat glass wing mirrors are next to useless. With quarterlight mounted mirrors you have to alter your line of vision too much and the passenger mirror sometimes needs to be turned so much that it rattles on the window glass.

I have a clip on, have had since the "summer" when I replaced my wings and couldn't bring myself to take the drill to them to refit my wing mirrors.

It's fine, and has stayed on for the past 7000 miles no problem.

(Oh no, that's usually the kiss of death!)

I've seen these at tom roys looked very neat and very little mods to chrome I think all you had to do was drill a small hole and shorten one of the chrome fixing screws,Bonus that it can't be nicked by a low life

I've had a couple of the clip on types athat attach to 1/4 light frame and waste of time as they come loose / fall off.
No matter what I tried I couldn't get then to stay on for more than short periods and also vibrated badly so image blurred.
In the end got a pair of proper door mirrors and problem solved.
