replacing the floor plan

i'm in a bit of a dilemma. i need to replace my floor plans due to someones previous patching ( i had three floors and the spring hanger wasn't attached to the chassis rail as the floor was floating).
my question is seeing that in general patern panels tend to be thinner than orignal should i use correct thickness sheet steel? although there would be no pressings in it.

Tricky - without the pressings, the panel will probably be less stiff than the thinner-but-pressed panels. So for larger areas like floorpans you're probably better off buying the panel. If it's small, make your own and know it's good steel!

Have a look at philsheredan's DVD. It shows what can be done.

No, you're right, it didn't work. Don't know why, but I just typed the link into Google, and it came up. Try that, it'll be worth it.

Or try it without the "s" on "minor" as in

The hadrian panels are plenty thick enough! I would have thought making it from sheet steel would be tricky, but a good project.

I used Hadrian panels for my drivers side floor pan replacement, no problems in terms of fit or strength.

I bought philsheredan's welding dvd a couple of weeks ago. I recommend it as well. It is full of practical tips for the beginner, and entertaining too.

Using the floor panels makes a lot more sense. Cut out all the crap, and weld in the new stuff, it will look much better with all the correct pressings in it. I patched one side of my floor with panels i made and then replaced the whole other side with a repair panel....now wish i had done both!

both sides are done now with floor pan panels, it was mainly cost issue. as one sheet of 1.2mm 8x4 sheet steel worked out at half the cost
