Hello all,

Found (another) oil leak, which may be at the heart of the biggest oil leak on the car.

It is seeping past the bolt that holds the tappet chest cover in.

What parts should be present and correct to stop this?

I'm thinking washers etc.

There should be a cup washer, in which is fitted a thick rubber washer, which makes the seal when tightened. Note that the bolt only needs to be tightened to about 6lb ft torque if I remember rightly.

That's what I'm missing then, I only have a bolt...

I'd better make a wanted ad then!

I think that ESM, Bullmotif etc list them - only a few pence each.

The early engines had a fibre washer if I remember correctly. A rubber seal wil be an improvement on that.

If you get an ordinary rubber grommet with a 1/4-5/16 hole in it, and cut this in half, you will have 2 rubber washers with holes in that should fit reasonably into the cupped washer.

Or just use a fibre washer under a steel washer - but the later rubber/cup was a very definite improvement.
Edit - You get a whole box of really useful rubber and fibre washers and O rings of many sizes in Poundland - for a Pound!
