Oil Leak

Post by Tweedy »

Hi All
I have a oil leak coming from the Cylinder Head ( I think ) I am new to Morris Minors and wondered if it was a hard job removing the Cylinder Head.

Welcome to our Forum! Many new members these days.
First you need to trace the oil leak to source - so wipe it all away and then run the engine to find where it's coming from. Most usual is the Rocker Cover gasket - sits on top of the cylinder head. It's unusual to have a leak from the cylinder head itself - although there is a little oil feed through the front right hand corner (as you look when standing at front of car). Any chance you can post up a picture of your car - and the oil leak ?
It's easy enough to do the cylinder head if you have some hand tools and some experience .
Come back once you have decided the source of the leak - we can easily talk you through it.
And post up your general location in your 'profile' - maybe someone nearby can come and have a look/lend a hand !

Hi Minor Maniac
Yes I will get the engine cleaned off tomorrow and start her up and see what happens, do you think it could be comming from the Tappet chest covers behind the manifold.
Thanks for your reply

Yes this is quite possible. Both the tappet chest covers and the rocker cover are easier (and cheaper) to do than the head gasket - as mentioned above, first thing to do is to clean it all up and run it to check exactly where the leak is coming from.

Pics of the leak when you've done this would be great, as also mentioned!

All the best.... :D
