Finally, I'm Ready !!!! (1275 Engine Fitting)

At last i have all the bits around me to fit the 1275 and also a 3.9 diff is on its way to me so Jenny is in for a bit of a long needed makeover.... Gone will be the knocking big ends and intermittant fuel pump, holed exhaust, wobbly engine mounts and clunky diff :-)
Exhaust wise I'm thinking of LCB with a twin box large bore system... Any comments on this?
Fuelling is from an HS4 on a heated manifold but I can't decide to use the lift pump or fit a new electric one... Thoughts please.....
Lastly, should I reuse my halfshafts or fit the "hardened" ones.....
It'll prob take me a few days to trial and final fit everything (I have to work in between playing) so I'll keep this updated with any issues that arise.... :P

Lcb + one silencer. Mechanical pump if you have it. No heating on that inlet manifold! Standard shafts should be fine - just don't do silly things in 1st gear.

My hearing is fine !
I'm the only one in our house can hear a high pich whine from the cooker clock electronics!
Open exhaust on my racing Mini - ended just about level with the seats (it was a 'tuned length') and sounded fantastic at full bore! Neighbours complained a bit when I was loading/unloading from the trailer!

PSL- if you're worried about noise levels-inside the car-then people do say the fabricated manifolds are noisier than the cast ones, also that stainless is noisier than mild steel. Depends what you're looking for, but LCB doesn't come into its own until highish revs. Could opt for a Marina manifold and downpipe to moggy shape. I'm pinning MY hopes on an RC40 twin box based system as thats reckoned to be quiet (I hope)! Using my car as a daily driver, so I want to keep it quiet as possible!

My mate runs a Mini restoration business so I'm off to see him next week to hear some different combo's before I decide... He did mention an RC40 based system and also a cherry bomb..... Think I'll give the last one a miss though :-)

As soon as I can find a Y piece to fit my lcb I'm fitting it in preference to a Marina cast to reduce the noise. Try as I might I simply cannot get a reliable seal on the manifold/downpipe joint.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

I have a Maniflow LCB and a 2" o/d system right to the back of the car. Had 2 Jetex silencers on to begin with, but had an annoying drone around 4,000 rpm (80 mph), which got very tiring on motorways. Now have 3, none of them very large, and long journeys are quite relaxed, but it still sounds quite 'nice'!

Top up or down, wind noise is the greatest noise generator.

The front silencer in mine is a cherry bomb & the rear one behind the axle is a fatter version of this. I've also lagged the manifold with the intension to reduce underbonnet temprature but also deadens the noise a little.

Ok Callum maybe not that loud. Its loud in a nice way though :wink:

Aside from the noise created by other traffic, Albert is actually quieter with the roof down and 60 ish because the hood traps the resonance from the exhaust. :roll:
