Please could somebody do me a big favour and find the diameter of the lens on the pre-62 minor sidelights. Just the lens diameter please.

Having crazy ideas, if all works I'll explain later

1 1/2" I think then but someone else might need to confirm this for you.....

The diameter of the lens is 1 3/4 in. The diameter of the chrome surround is 2 3/8 in.

Fantastic, thanks Mike.

yes, taking a second look at those measurements I assume the diameter of the whole unit is 1 3/4" ?
Those measurements do look a bit big.

I think so..... ie the visable glass bit when the chrome is fitted would be about 1 1/2" ??

Yep - or maybe closer to 1 1/4".

Go on then, let us in on your idea Andy. Flashing LED's?

Ok then.
I've seen people use these little rubbolite truck lights on the back of the minor under the bumper.
Image
So thought I could possibly use the white version but with orange bulbs on the front and with the chrome ring from the early sidelights around it to make it look like a standard minor sidelight.
Image
Don't think its going to work though as the measurements for these new lights will be in metric :(

Maybe I'm been a bit "fick" but where are you going to mount them? What I mean is, why just use standard moggie lights with orange bulbs in.... ???

I'm still trying to work out how I could mount them. You can't use the standard old sidelight bases as they are too small and made for a 5W bulb, if using a 5W orange bulb it would not be bright enough and would just glow instead of flash.

What's different between a 5W and 21W bulb then.... Surely you can get 21W with the correct mount? Mine flash aswel as acting as sidelights....

I'll have to keep fishing around but I haven't found any 21W bulbs that size yet.

Honestly I forgot about the fatc that '62-'64 cars have flashing sidelights, surely they must work then.

I would have thought you could get them to work. You would probably have to improvise your wiring with additional relays etc but I can't see why not.... Hence my "am I Been fick" bit :-)

The measurements I supplied were the outside diameter of the chrome surround and the outside diameter of the lens removed from the surround.

Ok, thanks Mike, my plan isn't going to work anyway then

Rich, after reminding me about the production flashing sidelights I know it must be possible. I assume the slightly bigger ones were just brought in so that they it could be seen better.

....or maybe to take 21W bulbs ;-)
