Exhausts

Post by Jefftav »

Hi all,

What is the best exhaust to use on the 1275 marina engine. I have a lcb manifold and a twin outlet manifold off a metro but wondered what the best options are.

The engine is a standard 1275, I start work early and I do have neighbours that don't like to be woken at 5.30am so it needs to be nothing too loud. If I can retain the original morris fart on gearchznges and overun all the better but thsi is not essential.

Thanks for your help in advance, Jeff

The twin box large bore system would be the right size for both options you state. It is available in both options from most Morris parts suppliers although last time I looked they were out of stock. :-?
This exhaust system doesn't retain the fart of the standard system and is a bit noisier at all revs. You will notice this in the car and so will your neighbours if you start the car in an enclosed driveway or garage :o .
To run a standard size system you will need a standard manifold or one from a 1000cc mini which will allow you to run a carb larger than 1.25" - unless you are prepared to cut the inlet section off - but this exhaust will almost certainly restrict your engine.
JLH was researching interest in a new product recently. A large bore, quiet exhaust system. You could try contacting Johnathon to see if he can help out yet.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

I would go with the lcb Jeff - and make up a system from that to the rear. If you want it quiet - just don't rev it up! Seriously - you could fit twin silencers which would make it quiet enough. The twin outlet manifold will be difficult to get front pipes to match up - unless you get a Mini twin outlet system and butcher it. The Ital also had the twin outlet manifold - dunno if Ital exhausts are readily available and how much work it will be to modify for Minor use.

I'm presently "engineering" a mini/metro twin pipe manifold, as a) I'm a cheapskate, and b) I want to keep things quietish and it seems the fabricated manifolds get a bit noisier. It started when one of those light bulbs illuminated and I realised that the twin outlets of the cast manifold accept the moggy pipe diameter(with a flanged spigot from the mini pipe welded on), and the outlet positions were not THAT different from the moggy manifold. Hence I am butchering two moggy downpipes into a collector box feeding into a mini RC40 system a la "Matt". Not quite got it done yet, but looking very do-able, and the headers won't then be massively too big for a 1098!
