NEC November
Hi all,
I'm off to the NEC Classic Motor Show in November, who else is going? I'll be going on the Sunday.
Anyway, I'm sure I heard somewhere a few years ago that you could get cheaper parking if you went in a classic car, is this true?
If so I'm definately going in my minor! Although it would mean I won't be able to buy as much stuff

it probably entails working 18 hour days organising transporting, laying out and selling MMOC regalia - although I wouldn't want to comment on the 'free' entry as I'm very sure that when it comes to Mr and Mr.s Regalia their efforts are poorly recompensed!Exactly how does one get to 'be on the Club Stand'

bpr81a helps me sell the regalia. I shall be there from Thursday afternoon until the show closes Sunday evening. We're there to work - believe me it's hard work. We start at 8 am and finish after the show closes each day.
Any members please come and say hi - there's always coffee and tea available.

I'm going on the Sunday. Last time I went it cost more to park the car than to get in and then I had a marathon walk to the halls from the car park. It doesn't matter what you drive as you park your car and then wander over the other side of the car park to join the ticket queue.
If you haven't got your reduced entry ticket email me and I'll give you the website

I'm going on Saturday.
The trick is to buy your parking ticket on the way back,
I usually take my hand held GPS so that I can find my way back to the car!
Its a good show and you get free entry to MPH the performance car show. It's a good day out.

Lesley and I did the Concours Final at the NEC for a number of years, before suggesting to the committee that we invite the then separate Barnsley Branch stand to join us, and have a full 'Club' stand.
When we took over the organising of the Concours section from the previous Chief Concours Judge, regalia was not being sold, but we requested that we be allowed to add this to the stand, and made considerable sales, as well as enroling many new members.
Yes, it was hard work, but all very worthwhile.

I'll certainly be over to visit, don't worry. I usually spend a while talking to people at the minor stand, so I've probably met a lot of people from the message board there but didn't know it.bpr81a wrote:Don't forget to visit us on the club stand!

Naturally visitors have to pay to attend the show. However in the past, clubs have been given discounted entry for their members via a reference number. Unless I have missed this, it doesn't appear to have been the case this year. Perhaps one of the committee would like to comment?

Well anyone helping to put up/take down our displays at Alexander Palace over the last few years has been given one of the display entry tickets in recognision of the help and assistance they have given and I dont ever remember being being overrun by volunteers.- but it does seem to be a bit of a 'closed shop' for entry to the stand -
That will depend on the space that you are given, at Ally Pally we were only once given the space for 4 cars and the last couple of years there has only been room for 2 cars but I have to confess that generally the selected cars come from within the show helpers who come up with the themes and assembly of the stands and there are also a few of the helpers who have not had their cars on the stands either.Exactly how does one get to 'be on the Club Stand' - presumably with free entry! ?
I really dont wish (or have enough time) to take on the amount of effort that Lou and Jon put into the Regalia stands at the shows and I do find it a little frustrating when some think that the show entries come from some sort of clique entry.
Sorry jumps of soap box.
Cheers

I did request at committee that I could still have some involvement in the stand after it was decided to drop Concours, particularly as I had suggested the joining of the Concours Final and the Barnsley Club Stand in a united club stand in the first place. It didn't happen. This is what I find frustrating.
I also understand that Barrie McKezie is standing down as Classic Car Show Organiser after this years show, and would like to offer myself for this position.

Don't know if I'll be able to make it this year, but I shall certainly try. Can't promise it'll be in Phyllis, though - last time I went the weather was appalling!
Will investigate my copy of MM for the NEC advert.

As I said, perhaps I missed it. Probably because I will not be going this year, and was not looking for it.

its a walking type of GPS not a car one - Just pree the button and it logs where you are then you can see how far away and what direction the car is. Last time I used it in Norway it said home was 653 miles south west!
