Hi all
After owning/restoring several MGs and Scimitars, Im thinking about taking the plunge with a Minor... I've just started to look around and may consider a convertable, so could anyone tell me how to spot a saloon conversion? thanks

Welcome aboard first of all,
Most important thing on convertibles are the reinforcing plates:
2 curved ones on either side of the dash
On the B post there is a sill strengthener.
All of these should be SPOT welded if this is an original car.
Also an easy thing to spot, there should not be a light switch in the door, as convertibles don't have interior lights.
And you should be able to check with the prefix on the chassis number.
It should start F for Minor, C for convertible (early cars from '52 to '58)
It should start M for Morris, A for A-series and T for Convertible on the later ones.
The last convertibles were built around June 1969
Hope that helps

Lots of new members these days - welcome aboard!
Nothing wrong with a well done conversion of course - provided it IS well done and the price is right.

Not quite true. We had a long debate over that at the national. *some* original convertibles may have the hole for the switch, but it won't be threaded!1

If you say, I'm only going by memory as I've never had a Minor with interior light

The other thing that can help is a Heritage cetificate if it comes with one.

If you look in the Off topic section you will see the Southampton thread, they meet up on a weekly basis, and are very welcoming.
They may know of a car for sale as well.
