I saw I photo recently of a modified van interior, it had a brilliant panel down the centre under the dashboard where the stereo and the speakers etc.. were fitted. Looks interesting, and useful, has anyone done this on their minor?

Err - it will block off the heater air flow!

It will also make reaching the dip switch near impossible.

I have considerd something like this before. went as far as making a mockup between the tunnel & parcelshelf out of cardbord but found it a bit too restrictive around the dip switch.

I had such a thing in an escort in the 70's. It was THE thing to have. Some were very small and just big enought to take your 8 track. Others went over the handbrake and in between the seats with a storage box. It slipped over the gear lever and screwed either side of the gearbox tunnel.
I think they were branded Harry Moss or similar.

Harry Moss...now that takes me back! There was a time you could get centre consoles for any car from the local spares shop those days are long gone

I remember those, black vinyl covered with a fake wood centre piece. There was an article in one of the car mags on how to make your own!

I quite fancy something like this to house extra gauges , the radio, cigar lighter 8) etc.
It should be possible to take account of the heater and maybe move the dip switch somewhere else like the indicator stalk.
An arm rest/storage box is appealing too. Good place to keep gadgets like GPS MP3 player and all this wires they need. And somewhere to rest you arm :)
Unfortunately my carpentry skills are about like my welding skills i.e. severely lacking.
If anyone has plans for such a thing I'd be interested.
Arm rest/storage boxes are available on Ebay.

Harry Moss- as already said- that takes me back!! I couldn't afford one in those days and made mine out of plywood, (the MDF tree hadn't been discovered yet), covered with thin foam and the ubiquitous black vinyl!! The point being, my woodwork skills were/are also negligible but you can cover anything up with a bit of fabric (or vinyl for the retro look)

I put a full length one in my Avenger, it housed my graphic equalizer, vacuum gauge, battery gauge and a rev counter out of a citroen.

I thought it would help me get girls.

I remember a girl called Teresa who was very impressed, and a girl called Sandra who was not so impressed when a small fire started behind the battery gauge, God I wish I was 20 again..................

Please do.
If possible do some drawings with measurements.
It could make a nice little project for when it's too cold and dark to work on the car i.e. winter.
I wouldn't use MDF either, it's horrible stuff that creates dodgy dust when you cut it and turns to mush if it gets damp.
