Hello! New to Minor World - 1st Post - Engine Servicing

Hi there everyone! New to the minor world, just bought a 1959 2 door saloon, it’s a good runner, but needs work on body and am going to get a re-spray! The reason am posting is one, to introduce myself and two, I would like to get the engine serviced as it isn’t one of my ‘strong areas’ does anyone know of a good place to get this done?

Am from warrington, i was looking for a full service really, with diffs gearbox oils etc all doing.

Hello there, hope you find this site as friendly and as usefull as I have. Now engine servicing! firstly it would help if you put your location on your profile!! but honestly servicing a minor is so easy to do yourself, if you dont have any knowledge, get a manual and follow the simple instructions there. If you try one of the specialists you will find they do service kits at very reasonable prices. £12.00 was the cost of my last one! remember that owning a minor is not the same as a newer car and you need to grease and check levels regulaly bit most of all its FUN!!!

Hi and welcome. Buy yourself a manual (from ebay or any of the online parts dealers) and do it all yourself. Moggie's are easy to service and work on in general and its all part of the fun of ownership. It also makes it so much cheaper. We are always here to help if you get stuck so don't hesitate to ask

hi andy if you get a haynes manual for the morris minor ,from all the moggy specialists.it will tell you how to service your car.i am a beginner and service my own car.i have repairs done by specialist firms.oil change plugs points brakes and greasing up are very straight forward once you have done them a couple of times.there are lots of friendly people on here who will offer lots of free advice.if i can do it anyone can

Thanks everyone for your help! i think i might get a haynes manual and give it ago! Another thing is, i am ok with stripping and i might have ago at re-spraying (practice on the garage door!) but i am hopeless at welding does anyone know of any company or person who i can use for this? Also how difficult is it to remove a engine and gear box and re-fitting? as i would like to strip and paint the engine bay again to. Also if i was to get in difficulty is there any places that could give me help!) cheers andy

i havnt atm momment but will get some soon! Sorry for posting in wrong area! Hopping to get it all done by the spring/summer, so can enjoy a long drive (if we get a summer next year) andy

Hey welcome to this fantastic forum!!! Sorry no experience of removing an engine... errr yet. But I am new to this car refurbishment larky and to be honest I've learnt loads. These cars are so easy to work on, there are so many helpful people on this forum that nothing is impossible. So if you wanted to remove an engine and gearbox read a manual and if anything needs translating or you get stuck, someone on here will know the size of the bolt you are missing.. lol!

I could tell you about the different types of swivel pins found on the moggy now if you like.

Removing and refitting engines and gearboxes is a little beyond servicing and shouldn't be necessary unless you are undertaking major internal work or need to change the clutch. Concentrate on getting to grips with servicing and build yourself up a decent tool kit, especially Whitworth and A/F spanners and sockets. Forget about metric tools.

I agree with ^^^^ ! If you are worried about doing 'servicing' then engine removal etc is a huge step beyond ! Worry about getting the car into good running order with a new MOT before considering 'engine bay' painting! What needs welding on the car ? Obviously that is the top priority - then brakes/suspension etc -all to get an MOT. Then think about painting.

You could either teach yourself to weld - just get some steel to practise on or see if your local College does evening classes in welding. Getting someone to do this for you will be expensive. Its easy when you get the hang of it.
