rear no plate

Hi everyone
Where can I the correct shaped rear no plate from. Also when i was rubbing down paintwork on the boot i found the original paintwork (green) and the recess in the boot for no plate was black in colour it looked original was this the case or was it done at a later stage maybe ??

Al the original bootlids I have seen have the black number plate plinth so I guess this was factory standard. Also, I've never seen correct sized number plates but I have carefully cut and filed the corners to fit the recess before now.....

Most of the Minor specialists can supply them however if yoiu talk to the average classic plate supplier they can do them without the edge rim and radiussed corners. Price varies for pressed aluminium plates but there are only 2 main types - the cheaper laminated ones and the slightly better non laminated type.
Be very careful drilling the laminated ones as you are likely to get swarf between the layers and that's not good.

As i live in ireland i was looking to get hold of a blank plate as i can get the pressing done locally,I am sure i was on the web at some time and saw somebody offering the plates the standard plate is a bit narrow top to bottom to fit exactly the boot lid here is a picture of new registration no there are dashes between the digits<br>

I guess they were done like that so the cars looked the part in the showroom before any plates were fitted. Same reason they had a plain black backing plate on the front I suppose.
Tippers Vintage Plates are a very good supplier and can do rears to fit the Minor recess. They're painted enamelled ones, not the cheaplaminated versions. They'd probably supply a blank one if you wish as I imagine any supplier would. You could even make one really...
