Are the dust protectors (ie the rubber collar) on the brass trunions smaller than on the later cars. If they are where can I obtain some from ?

Unless someone has some lying around I doubt if you will get them from commercial sources. The seals generally come as part of the trunnion kit. I used to have a brass trunnion but I sold it some years ago. All I can suggest is you try a later seal to see if it fits.
