I'm considering moving to Portugal and would obviously like to take Masie with me ... does anyone know what happens when you do this .. do you need to pay tax in europe, or is the tax-exempt attribution europe-wide? What happens when I bring her back to the UK?

Each country has its own regulations and some of them are quite draconian with regards to classic cars, we have it quite easy here.
You should check the regulations before you export the car.
