Hi All, Im swapping my diff over for a good second hand one and was wondering what to clean the crown and pinion with or is it best leave well alone and leave as is?. Also when fitting the diff to axle gasket is it best to use a gasket sealer. oil or fit dry?
Thanks
Jason

If the diff is clean then leave well alone, if it has been sitting around or has swarf in it from a broken half shaft then wash thoroughly in parafin until clean. Check the pinion and crownwheel for any damage and excess free play and check the bearings.
A smear of Hylomar on the face of the diff housing and the axle case will do no harm and help to keep the gasket in place

As long as it's spotlessly clean - just install it. Check the half shaft splines carefully - if they show a twist then get some replacements soon! And of course the shafts must go back in the side they came out - don't swap them over. And - don't forget to put new EP90 oil in that diff.
