fitting hubcap "prongs"

hi all,
I am fitting some early 4 stud ford falcon rims to my morrie (SeriesMM)
I am wanting to retain the original hubcaps, however the falcon rims have the 3 bumps style of mounts and these are too large to fit the hubcaps over.

I have heard it mentioned that you can remove the original 3 prongs and install them on other rims. would that involve cutting and welding them on?
are there any other options or suggestions?

Will M1000 hubcaps fit?
I've done things the other way around - fitted Series MM hubcaps to the wide wheels on my Traveller.

Series MM caps are 8.5" diameter, 1000 caps are 9" diameter. You cab get the later one in a plain design like the MM ones, they were used on Austin badged LCVs. Try a couple of the specialists over here.
