I have just bought a 1954 Traveller, late series 2. It came with a spare pair of front wings but are they the right ones for the model? Can anyone tell me how you can spot the differences.

If you can post some pictures on here someone will be able to identify them.

The only differences where the holes for the sidelamps, early wings had a small round hole for a small sidelamp later wings had an ovally hole for the larger type of sidelamps

Hockey stick holes were different too I belive.

As far as I know hockey sticks where different from when they made the chaneg from the cheesgrater grille to the slated type grille

does your traveller has the slated type grille or the cheesegrater, if it's the cheesegrater than your wings should have no holes for the sidelamps in them

would love to see a few traveller snaps!

the hockey stick shape of a series two is like a smooth 90° bend, but on 1000 models, it had a more acute bend of probably about 75°.

if its a LCV guard then you will be able to see the join just to the inisde of the headlight, on the cars this was filled with lead but they didnt bother with the LCVs

obviously low light is low light and doesnt have headlights on the guards!

i advise that whatever guards you have on your car, along the back edge you clean it out really good, then heat it up with a blow torch just enough to dry it out, take your time as you could damage paintwork with too much heat, and fill the entire back seam with undercoat. the minor guards are terrible for rusting here cause they fill up with crap and mud etc which holds hte moisture and rusts them out. same thing happens at the front above the headlight housing. it might be easier to fit a plastic shield in there than to fill it though.

Thanks for the answers re front wings. What is a hockey stick? I assume it is a plate that fixes at the back of the wing. If this is a different angle does it mean that the angle/shape of the wing is different near the door? The grill is the later type ie. horizontal slats.
The wings supplied have oval small light holes so are for later cars but it seems as though they will fit? Thanks for suggestion to prpare the back that collects dirt. Will get round to photographs when I replace my broken camera.

No the "hockey stick" is made of chrome and fixes to the sides of the front grille through holes in the front wing and the grille surround. It gets it's name as its hockey stick shaped!
