Socket size for window frame.

I tried to get a socket into the recessed bolts that hold the window frame into the door last weekend but couldn't get the socket into the hole (!/2" drive). How do you loosen the nuts, box spanner or what and what size is it, AF, Whit or BSF.

I think I used a 3/8th drive 7/16th socket last time i tried to get at them... but im probably wrong

I did this about 3 weeks ago, 7/16th was what came to mind for me as well. My 3/8 drive socket and extension bar fitted perfectly.

I wound up using a deep 7/16 socket on a 3/8 drive. My standard ones were too shallow. A "Rotator" type socket wrench made this a whole lot easier too!

They're 3/16BSF/1/4whit but you'll find a 7/16" AF will fit pretty well - just a little snug. (depends on the socket and the tolerance)
If anyone makes Whitworth deep 3/8 drive sockets I'm sure we'd all like to know!

Thanks, thats certainly worth knowing.
May just get a standard set for the time being, I'd need to be in the right spending mood for the deep set! I will have some though...
This probably ought to be in useful tips as whitworth stuff isnt commonly available and asking what bolt size various parts are is a fairly common question..

Well, I found that site by searching on Google for "Whitworth Spanners" and loads of suppliers came up actually - there seem to be plenty of combination spanners on the market, slightly less socket sets but still easy to come by, but the site above was the only one I found with
deep sockets. All mail order though of course.
But you're right, you won't find them in high-street tool shops or Halfords!
