I have a slidey lever type thing on the front of the heater, but the labels are worn off. I assume this directs the air to different places?

There is a switch on the lower front of the heater, this doesn't do appear to do anything. Should this activate the blower? What about different fan speeds?

There is a cable pull on the right side of the lower dash that is labelled 'pull heater'. Again this doesn't seem to do anything. Is this the air temp control, or should it just do hot/cold with no in between?

The blower fan appears to be always off, and the heater constantly puts out hot air regardless of the controls.

The slide lever controls the air. There are three settings - off, demist windscreen, and warm cabin. The switch should turn the fan on and off (there is no speed control). The Knob should actuate a valve on the back of the cylinder head that shuts off the water when you push it in (this valve often seizes up).

Thanks Alex. I'm used to the older heater with a variable (of sorts!) fan speed.

The switch doesn't appear to do anything, so i'll have to look into that, and the cable attached to the heater knob goes through the bulkhead and, er, just dangles there. I'll have a look for a valve on the back of th c/head!

Somebody might have replaced the cable-operated water valve with the earlier (more reliable) brass tap type.
