Needle for HIF44

You don't say what engine or carb you are using.
The AAD needle is a .090" spring loaded needle which could be used on a range of carbs including an SU HS2, 4 , HIF 38 or HIF 4.
According to my reference book there seems to be an error. The AAD needle is listed as part no. CUD 1003 and CUD 1027 is an ABD needle.
CUD 027, ABD was used on a HIF 4 carb on a USA spec MGB.
Let me know what engine and carb you are using and I should be able to find the correct needle.

Sorry should have been more specific. It's not the profile I'm asking about.
My understanding is that the needles are of two designs. One fits the HS type the other HIF's.

It's the later swing needle for an HIF38 - but too small for an HIF44 which needs a similar looking needle - but in the Bxx series.

It doesn't seem to work like that. I can do no better than to refer you to the SU Reference Catalogue and SU Needle Profile Charts available from Burlen Fuel Systems, tel 01722 412500.
The HIF 38 takes a .090" spring loaded needle and the HIF 44 takes a .100" spring loaded needle.

In fact -you can remove the little collar from the 'swing' needle - to reveal an old style needle for use in early carbs !

However you still need to identify the needle profile for its suitability for a particular application.

Which you can do by looking up the profile on the internet from the marking on the needle. Several sites - some allow direct comparison. Generally for an A series engine on an HIF 38 the AAA needle is a fair starting point.

The 1275 Ital engine with an HIF 44 carb uses a BER needle and the 1275 MG and VDP Metro engines use a BDL needle.
Every 1275 engine seems to use a different needle so just take your pick.

OK guys. That should do me. Albert certainly goes very well at the mo. The only thing is that despite spending large amounts of effort in getting the mixture right so he does go well, he also seems to require very little choke so I suspect the jet and needle are worn a bit. Hence the original query.

VDP engine is same as MG engine - hence the BDL is the usual first needle to try for any modified 1275 engine.

I have discovered this site
http://www.mintylamb.co.uk/suneedle/ which is excellent for comparing SU carb needle profiles.
I have an HIF 44 fitted to my 1275 engine with a BGW needle, unfortunately mintylamb does not include that one fo comparison on the graph so, can anyone provide or guide me to the BGW profile

Can't find BGW either - sure it's not BCW ? - which is a very weak needle !
