Should the indicators tick on a Minor?

Just wondered if you should hear a ticking noise inside the car when the indicators are on, or is the flashing light on the indicator stalk enough to satisfy the MOT tester?

I think on most minors the ticking is audible when the engine is off, as soon as you switch on that wonderful bumbling engine it becomes impossible to hear! I dont think it would matter as long is there is some form of indication (ie. the flashing green light).

The only "tick" would be from the relay which is buried in the engine bay, and, as Andy says, once the motor's running you ain't gona hear it. You only hear the tick on some modern cars because the manufacturers "engineer" the tick to be there... Its not required for MOT purposes as the flashing light is sufficient...... Unless you're blind - In which case you wouldn't be driving anyway :-)

Yes, a faulty indicator warning light is an MOT failure point.

There was no audible 'tick tock' built into the indicator system like there was in some other cars. As has been said, it is possible to hear the relay clicking under certain circumstances but the presence of the flashing stalk light was the only reminder designed into the system.

Nothing to stop you bringing the flasher unit inside the car of course if you want to hear it 'tick'!

Thanks for the replies, I am not bothered about hearing a ticking sound, glad to know that I only need the flashing light for the MOT, hopefully should be ready for this next month.
