Now that I am unfortunately no longer as active in the Club as I would like to be, I have returned to an old hobby of mine, photography.

Anyone else share this particular interest?

Here are a few of my most recent attempts.

Yes. the interest started at college and I bought a Zenit E from my brother. Totally manual SLR and weighed a ton but took great shots if you were patient. The hobby always took a back seat to my other interests but some time ago with the advent of digital cameras I promised myself I'd buy on when the prices were more reasonable. This year I bought a Canon 350D and am loving the ease and simplicity of shooting and downloading on the PC - mistakes cost nothing and i can forget i ever took them   . I just wish I had more time (and better weather  ) at my disposal. I'd dissapear for the weekend in Albert and just go snap happy.

If you really wan't to learn about photography, I believe that you should forget all about totally automatic cameras. So by starting with a Zenit E, a camera I remember well, you will have learnt a great deal. My own first SLR was a Praktica Super TL.

Today with digital photography, as you say, mistakes cost nothing, and can teach you an awful lot.

I also started with a Zenith E, then Olympus FTL and OM2. Now just got an Olympus 520 DSLR. I specced what I really wanted, but found that although the cameras were available, they cost more than the car (and that's body only, lenses extra). The 520 is a good compromise, and after 300 shots (at least 50% manual) I'm getting to grips with the idea of not having to reload every 36 exposures, or change films for speeds, monochrome, etc. However, the cars and boats still come first.

It looks like the Zenit E is going to prove to be the Morris Minor of the camera world

As I say, this hobby has only recently been rekindled, and then only due to circumstances. However I will always be a Minor enthusiast, and given the chance, an even more active one.

Here's my best effort - just a simple digital camera i'm afraid!

It was taken during the filming of 'The 39 Steps' at Bo'ness a few weeks ago - watch out for the film on BBC on Boxing Day!

I thought it was 'Woefull' - I mean they couldn't even get the driver to stand on the correct (left) side so he could see the signals! Caused quite a few accidents over the years.
LNER for me !

I really like pics like this one by Linnea Jönsson showing the work environment. Where the magic happens

But I always seem to be under the car and never get time to take pics like these.

I vow to myself I shall make time

Black and white has always been my favourite, particulary the darkroom side :D
