The big nut only holds the outer sheath of the cable to the motor. To remove the inner part of the cable, take the cover off the motor gearbox and the fitting on the end of the cable will just lift off.

And then you just pull the inner 'rack' out of the outer sheeth. Worth marking which way round it is - then when you put it back you can turn it over - and get an 'unworn' section of the rack!

When I removed mine I also had to remove one of the wheel boxes (forgive me if that is not the correct term) that the wipers are on as it had seized up and would not allow the cable to come out.

Not really - just spread around the stuff that's there. Does it turn freely enough - it's more the spindle that gear runs on that could possibly do with a drop of oil.

It depends on a little contact rubbing on the domed lid to make the auto park - so check that contact is present and correct under the lid. Revolving the lid adjusts where the blades park.

Without a doubt, the worst job I've ever had to do on a Minor!
Master cylinder was a doddle in comparison.
