the P-U's about 4 feet in length and breadth so pesumably the van's the same. Can't be more accurate, my vehicles are 120 miles away, along with my books

my vehicles are 120 miles away
mine is about 600 miles away on the lovely island of Orkney (mainland).
I miss it quite a bit but I got to drive my Marina camper yesterday for the first time, so that makes up for it a lot.

I did measurements for someone a while ago, poo, don't know how to find them now, you could try searching my old posts (errr.... good luck with that one

)
If you are desperate I will take the cover off the van and re-measure

ok, kevin, here you go:
Bear in mind that the rear doorway is curved in at the top, have a look at a photo of the back of a van and you'll see what i mean.
The rear door aperture measures 114cm wide at its widest part, and 95.5cm high at its highest part. However, don't forget there are wheel arches cutting into the width of the floor, which therefore narrows to 101cm wide at the middle.
The cargo area is about 150cm long, a conservative estimate to allow for curvature.
hope that all makes sense and is helpful

that is great thank you, do you know if the pickup is the same?

I would imagine that it is shorter, because of the back fitted to the cab - but bigginger is your man for that
Do you reckon your engine will fit into a van?

P-U would have a tiny bit less length, but only (I'm guessing) three or four inches, and that only above a few inches above the bed

Actually, though, it of course doesn't.
(Unless you are trying to fit a steam engine into a pickup.)

well the overall length of the engine is 40" so it should fit in the van it just depends if the chimney will also go in, as i havent measured that yet, but i think im going to have to go for a pickup, purlay beacuse you can take the roof off if it has one

could well be illegal due to weight

what;s the max axle weight of either a van/pickup?
See if you can put the engine on a weigh -bridge somewhere - remember it'll likely be laden with water/coal for carriage + whatever spare fuel you will need for shows...
