I'm not sure how this will go down here but I am a fan of lowered cars. Do you think it's doable to get a traveller to look like this??? I have been playing around on photoshop, I think it looks pretty cool.

having done the whole lowered thing before (6n2 polo running at -130mm on KW V2 coilovers as a dailly driver) I can see where your coming from.
Problems you will face at that 'height' include:
chassis getting inthe way.
suspension operating out of normal range causing wear
suspension working at angles it was not designed to (destroying the handling)
grounding out*

To get to this look you would probably have to rebuild the chassis. this will be exsasserbated with the euro look (icle wheels and lower than a badger's ******)
you could use larger wheels (alloys?) to fill the top of the arch but this will lift the chassis by half of the increce in overall tyre diameter.

I say, if you like it DO IT! its your car! BUT if you do it, do it right this kind of work done in half measures will litterally rip its self apart, potentially with you in it! Not only will we loose a minor this way but someone would have to mop you up.


*most people say that they will drive more carefully (slower) once I was in the polo and turning round in a carpark, there was a stud in the floor where the gates met in the road. the stud was probably only 1"-2" high and stopped me dead from 20 mph when I hit it with a lower chassis brace.
Its worth noting that the minor front plate goes under the bumper. I was in the polo once and changed lane on the motorway as I lifted off the throttle (with the suspension set super soft for motorway miles) and as I passed the cats eyes I was tapping them with the bottom of the front bumper!

Backing up BMCEs point it would be virtually impossible to turn the front wheels if it was lowered that much!

I disagree with everyone, i think it looks awesome! Morris Minors in general sit way to high. It would be impossible, though, with the stock suspension/chassis.

I guess slammed cars are just an American tradition?

Hmmmm......I'd love to say mixed reviews but everyone seems to hate it.

I never intended on doing this, i just thought that it looked really cool. To do something like this is well out my price range but if money was no object I would get it on air bags and slam it when parked and then raise it up nicely for driving....Now where did i put that lottery ticket!!

why do people do this to cars to cars they claim to love, keep them standard,,,grandad

Quite like the stance, but I would fit some decent alloys or different steels. It would be totally impractical to drive like this but as you say, with air bags you could drop it to the floor, and raise for a decent ride height.
Dread to even think of the cost though, so keep on doing the lottery

Personally I think its awful, but then I'm no longer a hip young thing, and there are still plenty enough minors out there to allow for the (hypothetical, note) interpretation given. The same can't be said for all the 105E Anglias that we religiously put huge fibreglass arches on in the 70's, usually running out of cash before we got to banding the wheels!! When did you last see one?

They dont have to be kept standard to be loved, if you think about it well customised/modified vehicles are a sight to behold and illustrate the care and devotion of the owner!

With regards to the "slammed" look... personally I dont like it and using standard wheels your suspension would be the bump stops! But its your car and its done safely (ie. its safe to use on the road) you should be able to do whatever you like, ultimately almost anything is possible with hard work and a not insubstantial amount of cash!

Aaaah- sudden light bulb moment: air bags in a Datsun, at that age? Different sort of air bags to what I was thinking!!

personally i like 'em to ride high - i like the jeep vibe kind of thing - I'll be adjusting the van to ride as high as is sensible (partly this is a practical issue, as I want to be able to get it up very rough tracks in the Lake District etc)

BUT each to their own, and lots of people love lowered Minors, and they can look awesome.

Air bags would be cool, just let it sit on the bumpstops at rest and raise up to drive!

The was a traveller at Chatswaorth a few years ago that sat like that when parked.....Citroen BX19 running gear.....Editted..I've found the picture:

A few years ago there was a rather nice Black pickup called Black Overdose that was a true Low Rider and his set up even allowed him to raise the sides seperately as well as front and rear, unfortunately I dont have any pic's of it but I think it came from the Beds/Northant area.

That looks great. I'm hoping to get into the scene next year so might see it in the flesh in 2009. I am enjoying hearing everyones views here. I guess it's the same everywhere though, people know what they like!!!
