my ute is bright red. i havnt chosen what colour to use for the interior yet. what i was planning on was to carpet the roof and back panel (its a flatdeck) with a very short cutpile carpet to help reduce noise and increase comfort. i will need to make carpets for this aswell, i will make a pattern from existing carpets.
my morry book doesnt go into colour combinations but what would be the recommended colour? grey is too boring. the same red would be very bland. im not a creative person but i like creative thing so need some assistance here!
thanks

i've had advice from knowledgeable types that black can make the interior "drop out" - your eyes can't focus on it, or something like that

Personally I love black carpet, but I've gone for wine-coloured for the van, it tones with the flip paint and goes well with the paint used in the interior of the cargo area - and it won't show party stains
Bright red.... hmmmm..... cream would be gorgeous but hopelessly impractical

..... what colour are you painting the interior of the cargo area? and what colour are the seats and door cards?
interested wibble xx

Red with biscuit (beige) interior was a good 1970s BMC colour combination so you'd get a faint touch of originality as well as avoiding claustrophobia!

if i run with the seats i already have (mazda lantis seats, not ideal but im not forking out another sum for some new ones) are mostly grey. they have a subtle pattern on them i think - i cant remember, they are away in the shed at the moment.
i dont have any door cards or anything like that, ill be making my own ones at some stage with some thin wood covered by vinyl.
i think with grey as a fairly neutral colour i am left with an open door for the carpet, door cards and hoodlining. i am tempted to go black because i cant really think of any other colours which would fit nicely with the red.
heres a pic of my 4-door's interior, is that what you mean regarding the red and biscuit?

Lovely 4-door interior!
No I wasn't thinking Morris Minor - I was thinking Triumph Stag (hence my ID!) and other BMC cars - e.g. Austin 11/1300s.
Biscuit is a more yellowish beige colour and is a good contrast with bright red colours. But, if your seats are greyish already I'd go maybe for black, but more of a dark gray/charcoal colour.

I know a lot of people don't like green but it does go with a light grey and you can gets green carpets to match.

I suppose it depends on which wine you mean rose or a deep claret!

What about antique gold looking at your paint? Goes off to hide in corner.

ah, yes, the wine colour will of course depend on whether i am eating lamb or salmon.
antique gold sounds lovely

Ohh! roast lamb - are you cooking?

I suggest you have a word with either Newton Commercial or any car interior trim maker. I'm certain they will be able to send you a few swatches to match the paint perfectly. Have fun

Alas, neither Newton nor any of the other trim makers have been able to find a match - Newton did find "Vanilla" about eighteen months ago but apparently it's now been discontinued by the manufacturer concerned
Believe me, few stones remain unturned in my search for this material!

I have made my own for our 3 4drs and use a firm in Rubery, Birmingham called Autotrim who make up the piping, they do do interiors for all cars. I know they dont have the patterns for the Morris seats but if someone sent him some for a pattern he may be able to help. He has a fantastic range of vinyls and leathers. When people ask me what colour my car is I get a blank look if I say "rose taupe", if I say "drinking chocolate" they know exactly what colour she is!
