banjo sterring wheel, how do i clean it

I have just bought a banjo steering

wheel for my 71 traveler, can anyone tell me what it is made of and what's the best way of cleaning the black part of it .

Kind of bakelite material I think. Go carefully - it has a shiny 'skin' and if you break through that then it's not at all shiny!! I would suggest just wax polish and elbow grease.

I have tried elbow grease,

I think the shiny " skin " has long gone, it's very dull no cracks just dull & gone light grey,

I use t-cut on mine, I would stay away from wax on the steering wheel, you wouldn't want to loose your grip would you.

I have a collection of Bakerlite and Brasso was recommended to clean it.

No problem holding the wheel whether waxy or not - with my string-back / leather palm driving gloves of course!
Edit - When you say 'centre' Kevin - I'm guessing the Horn Push ??
