Hello. I don't really have a moss problem to speak of, but I know that it's a risk on the mid-rail window runners (if that's what you call them) of Travellers, and I do keep finding small green bits there. I'm just wondering if anyone takes any (ideally eco-friendly) preventative measures to deter the growth of green stuff in the first place...

I blast my window runners with a hosepipe every time I wash the car (typically once a week) and that seems to be keeping the moss off. I didn't wash her for over a month recently and they started to go green - a long blast with the hosepipe and they were clean again.

When we redid the wood on Vikki I used Cuprinol 5 before Danish Oil.
I touch up the oil about once a month and I have no sign of moss and the car lives outside. Perhaps there's a moss preventor in it, but it seems to do the trick!

Am I the only one envisioning someone shouting 'shoo' and 'be gone' at a well known MG spares suppliers?

Thanks for the feedback. The moss is more of an issue in the brush rails that the windows slide along than on the adjacent wood - which, like Lou's, is treated with Cuprinol and regularly re-oiled. (Nice car, Lou, by the way!) I've just been picking bits out with a key but Alex's hosepipe-blasting technique sounds good. I've been washing my woodie without a hose (as I usually have to park too far away from my flat), but will get myself down to one of those 'hose your own' car wash places and get blasting...

Hoses are ok so long as you're windows are watertight and the paint sound! I also make sure the holes in the waistrail are clear and regularly re-oiled - impregnate cotton buds with Cuprinol and poke them down leaving for 24 hours whilst the oil soaks in helps. An old toothbrush will also aggitate any "green" off, before washng down.

When you hose the window rails you are soaking the timber frame - beware. My car too is C5 and oil - and I just pour a little oil into the sliding rails and let it run through into the wood. No moss so far - but I admit car spends most of it's time indoors. I have however found Moss to be excellent suppliers of spares !

The frame gets soaked every time it rains because my car lives outside. I'd rather make sure the channels stay clear of moss and other gunk that might cause them to hold water.
