Post by dustyfog »

Hi
i have a small problem with the indicator stalk from a 67 2 door. we took our car for an mot earlier this year and was advised that the tell tail bulb must light up when the steering is in straight mode, the bulb must light up in both planes up and down. we brought a new stalk but it still dosn't work as it should any ideas please.
many thanks dusty

I assume that you have checked the bulb. Does it work in any position?
If you have an indicator bulb failure then the warning light bulb will not flash.
Check the wiring on the flasher unit or the flasher itself.
Is the steering column mounted straight. There is a self cancelling peg on it which could be off centre.
Just a few random ideas.
Hope you've kept the receipt. Indicator stalks are expensive if you get the original working.

the light will only come on when the switch is up or down, ie to indicate left or right

it will not come on in the neutral or off or wheels straight ahead position
the mot man is wrong in saying that

Mine did that- took me ages to realise the earth wire was loose where it's attached to the underside of the dash. Dark and dingy under there, so I just wiggled it till it played the game!

while at this subject! I am wiring everything in the dash. including a new indicator stalk. supposedly wires are all ready wired up but the green ligt at the end is not working at all. is this maybe because I still haven't connected the front and rear indicators? 10x

hi Frank

kemm tqum kmieni tahseb fuq il morris!!! Yes the system is designed to give an indication if one of the indicator lamps is missing or even both! If one bulb is open circuit the indicator lamp at the stalk, and the whole system would flash at a higher rate than normal.

But if both bulbs are missing on one circuit then the bulb is off.

Wish u luck with your resto, good job so far!!
