Fitting carpet

Make sure your seat securing bolts are long enough to go through the new underfelt and carpet !!!

And don't fit it the day before a deadline to use the car ... and on a Sunday

Still feel it would been good if Newton Com' had pre-cut and reinforced the apertures for the pedals etc. The bit around the handbrake was and looks really good.

Just my humble opinion.

S, hope you're not still bent double after all that carpet fitting. Yes agree, bound holes would be good, but I suppose its not done as some people have their pedals in different places - Marina pedal boxes for instance.

Managed to finish fitting the carpets on the MM at last. Trickiest bit was fitting the handbrake cable guides through the carpet and the prop shaft tunnel. That was a 2 person job. Would have been easier fitting carpets for the first time but replacement carpet clips had to line up with existing studs on the floor.
Had a moan to the Newton man at the nat. rally about the lack of cutouts. Something about l or r hand drive but they managed to get the heal pad on the correct side. Used my old carpets as templates.

Pedals in different places......hmmm.....I thought the idea was, I was buying carpet that was specifically designed for an original MM. Enough said.

Looking forward to seeing Mike Perry's carpet. Still not sure what he means about two man job.......

Trying to decide on a route when I should be pouring something nourishing into my 'singing diff'...... It's quite melodic really.

Now I have carpet and underfelt, I can hear other noises that need attention now.

My Mum had an old Vauxall Viva and were advised to jack it up and feed a pair of tights into [moving wheels] the diff' to quieten it!

We decided not to

3. Keeping warm in the winter? You could always wear them! This depends on how efficient your heater is though. Upgraded Mini heater I've got defrosts the back doors on the traveller whilst slowly roasting your feet.

ha, my heater motor is super powerful, courtasy of a toyota supra/MR2 heater. but, just seems to bake your feet that little bit more! quite nice as i wear shorts in most weathers!
oh and...
5.use them as a steering wheel grip/embelisher. fishnets anyone...

How easy was that to fit, how well did the screen pipeing match up and can you show a photo of it in place so we can see what it looks like.

The 2 man job was one person to screw the handbrake cable guide bolts threw the carpet and floor. The other person to lie under the car and hold a spanner between the propshaft and the propshaft tunnel to hold the nuts in place.
Now you've seen my carpets what do you think.

This job is just about possible with one man under the car turning the nut and a pair of mole grips holding the bolt from inside the car.

Hi Guys - Just a thought, When I have new carpet fitted in the house I trim off-cuts to use as rugs to protect the carpet in "high-traffic" areas. I take the off-cuts to a carpet wholesaler where they bind the edges of the carpet to make the "rugs"presentable. I'm sure that other carpet wholesalers may do the same, but if it is of any use to anyone I can give the address of the guy I use in Northampton.

This may prove useful for binding around any non standard cut-outs that you may need to make. He keeps a massive stock of threads for the binding machine to match most carpet colours.

Need to get the front seats repaired/restitched too.
A stitch in time and all that.......

I think there's a guy called Baldisarie [sp?] in Bedford who repairs upholstery, I'll check it out. Would anyone like the details?
