just picked up some of your plates (im in new zealand) that i think will suit my morrie quite nicely (obviously i cant legally use them)
from what i understand they should be around period correctness
also wikipedia tells me that the OJ codes for Oxford
and as a plus 51 is the year of my morrie
unsure what they are originally from, but i seem to recall being told they were from an imported vauxhall (maybe a triumph)

you should just register them as a personalised plate. it will cost you $500, technically you shouldnt use them but i dont think that any reasonable cop or wof inspector would care.

i checked, for a 3 letter then 3 number its about $400
the combination hasnt been used either.
However i think i would rather keep my original black plates (and my $400)

i guess next is a set of pre silver on black nz plates

if you got the personalised ones, just wack those UK ones on, they have the same letters/numbers as what you would purchase so you dont need to put those ugly new ones on. i heard there was someone around who could still make the old black plates. i only have one plate for my ute and there aint a chance im putting new plates on it so im going to have to make up a black one somehow.

^ thats exactly what i would do
i know of a few cars that have their plates "detailed" to the black style.
Done quite well, i can ask how it was done if you want

but the thing is, if i get new plates, it will have a new number. a Exx number wouldnt suit a morry. i much prefer DXxxxx. i have a sheet of alloy the right size, i would just need to buy a sheet of thinner alloy to cut the letters out of. i havnt thought of a method of sticking them on yet though. if i had access to a tig(?) welder then i could drill holes in the back of the thick peice and fill them in with weld, which would fuse the letter to the backplate

1 - stick some steel letters to a big lump of steel.
2 - place lump on ally sheet
3 - drive over it a couple of times
4 - ????
5 - plates "pressed"
6 - profit
they dont issue a replacement plate do they, only new ones?

i just checked legislation.govt.nz and it says that a numberplate must be embossed, aluminium coloured lettering on a black background (or the new type) so that means that i can legally make my own, no issues there - which is good. another option is just painting it so that its black and use accurate masking to make the letters
