rear leaf springs

Advice needed please

another wet miserable afternoon in the North East,

brightened up however by tinkering with my Series 2 saloon in a dry garage. The rear leaf springs are a tadge rusty, most removed by gentle use of a wire brush, coat them with (oil + petrol) or (oil + grease), any comments or other suggestions?

Well personnally I'd paint the outside edges and outside flats with black paint of your choice then that should keep them cleaner and you can then apply petrol, oil or fairy dust on the working faces as you wish.

Don't coat them at all. They need to "run dry" to give the correct amount of springing. If lubricated, they are too soft.

They are intended to run 'dry' - and yes the friction of the leaves working against each other does give some 'damping' although no extra 'springing'.
