I've just pulled the 1275 Marina engine off our type 9 gearbox. clutch all looks non-moggie (though maybe the pressure plate is standard?) - is it normal to use the Ford set up, or is the pressure plate Marina and different from the Minor one? (thrust bearing is definitely Ford, with proper ballrace!) I'm putting a 1098 back, will the rear engine plate fit, or do I just swap the one off the Marina? (I know I can compare the two, but I thought it might be quicker to ask Those-Who-Know!)
Should be fine with the 1098 backplate -but you will maybe need to use the flywheel and certainly the clutch that came with the 1275 engine. Note - 1275 marina has 6 bolt flywheel, 1098 has 4 bolt flywheel. But you may well find the 1275 flywheel was originally a 1098 (if you follow!) and therefore already has the 4 hole fixing. If the clutch pressure plate will fit the 1098 flywheel - then just use that flywheel.
Easy enough to renew the ring gear - drill a hole in the rim of the old one and split it with a sharp chisel. Heat the new one in a domestic oven - 200C will be enough - and drop it onto the flywheel. Just be sure to do it the right way round!

Indeed - it matches up perfectly with a dowel, and a tight fitting bolt through the other side - and then it acts as a superb drill jig for the other 4 holes.
I just went and looked (it's still on the engine) - it appears to have one actual hole, and one flush pegged hole diametrically oposite it as well as the six bolt heads....if that tells you anything? I wasn't actually going to ditch it, it will stay with the 1275 engine and may all be spare before long
