my ecelarator stuck on yesterday i went in the garage removed the rear inner cable from a bike put an end on it back on the road in 15 mins, try that on modern car.old one had frayed.

A lot of modern cars now use fly by wire throttles, no cable at all, just a potentiometer at the pedal end, and wires going to the ECU. Can be expensive to fix, and worse, you cannot rev the car from under the bonnet without having a laptop and the required software for the car handy. Progress!

back to basics then

And -with some modern cars-when you touch the brake pedal the acceleration cuts off. Thus - it's not possible to drive with left foot braking - not even to dry out wet discs!

I dont think there is anything left on a modern car that isnt controlled in someway by the silicon overlord

I wouldn't be suprised if my wifes Zafira is one of them. It's a real pain to pull away smoothly partly because it's a 'small capacity' 16v with no low down torque and partly because the throttle movement isn't linear.

yes - that's getting common. low down torque is messed with to help reduce the last nano% of mpg.
Non linear throttles really annoy any decent driver but they seem to impress the numpty petrol head because you get >50% engine torque by just touching the throttle, thereby convincing a brainless driver that the engine is powerful (but of course making the car much less pleasant to drive)
