A Quick Question A bout Rear Axles

I know this may sound daft but im abit new to the world of moggie's

Can you put wheels back on the rear axle once you ave taken out the half shafts out ?

Sorry if this sounds daft :o

Not daft at all - it's an important point.
yes you can put the wheels back on, however the hub bearings are not working properly without the half shaft. If you just want to push the car around the driveway it shouldn't be a big problem.

If you were going to tow it down the road then I'd be very concerned! If the hub bearing collapsed you'd loose the wheel! Added to that, the drums won't sit correctly so the brakes won't work correctly.

So - if it's to use the axle in say a trailer - then you would need to at least cut the ends off the shafts and use them. Even then - I wonder if the outer bearing gets some useful support through the half shaft - the safest bet will be to leave the diff in place and have full half-shafts fitted.
