hello do i put engine oil in gearbox, thanks grandad

Yes 20/50 engine oil, although the very early gearboxes did use Hypoid (side valve engine)

just drained old box before removing. roller and ball bearings and part of a tooth came out with drain plug ,

you are right i must be more carefull in futer getting a bit short in that department,,also answers why the old girl groned in first and second , and jumping out of second gear on deceleration . hope the box i am having put in monday is better, looking through side plate it looks fine to me but graham the man who will put it in will check he is a retired mechanic so i will take his word as to condition

When you had the side plate off - I hope the two little springs didn't get lost! And - inspect the carbon thrust release bearing when the gearbox is being changed - and fit a new one if it's worn!
