The Channel Islands

Post by jojax64 »

Anybody ever shipped a small car over to the UK from the Channel Islands? I've found one that interests me, but I need to build the cost of UK shipping + UK registration into the equation.
Any advice will be greatly received...this is a totally unknown area pour moi.

Try contacting ptitterington. He shipped a traveller from the UK to Jersey so might be able to help with advice regards to doing it the other way round. See thread below:

From what I have been told, it is pretty straight forward. As the car is old you will not have to pay any duty and I gather the registration is quite easy.

Ferry is about £200 car plus passenger to weymouth, Poole or slow overnight boat to portsmouth (See condor Ferries website)

Only problem may be MOT. When a car comes from Uk to Jersey it faces a really strict test before it is allowed to be registered then it will never be tested again, we have random road checks and defective vehicles are inspected. An old moggy in Jersey may have avoided an inspection and be in a far worse condition than you realise. (I have a yellow Saloon with virtually no cills or floor and can take it on the road if I wanted as long as I have insurance. (I would be fined if caught in a check or had an accident and the car was found to be defective) )

Its a small island, I would be happy to have a chat with the seller and have a look to save you a wasted trip over.

Before I had my car refurbished, I looked at a fair few bundles of rust that the owners thought were in perfect order!.

Good luck
