Hello all,
one problem with reversing polarity is that the battery terminals need to be rotated 180 degrees, which normally means that the terminals end up close to the battery retaining strap. This can be a potential hazard and the ideal way is to buy a new battery with the terminals on opposite side to the original. The alternative is to fabricate a battery support that clamps on the base of the battery.
Just a point to be careful with.

Or just re-route the cables so they reach the battery where it lies! No problem with the earth connection, maybe need a new longer main feed connection. Of course the connector terminals need to be swapped over anyway - they are slightly different sizes.

Or just cover the whole front end of battery and terminals with rubber matting - £1 for a meter form most car boots......

As long as it doesn't wriggle through the matting!

Much simpler to buy a battery with the connections in the correct positions and at the back of the battery box! There are plenty available with a choice of capacity.

There is a 'sticky' by Badfelafel at the top of this section with an excellent wiring diagram shown for a dynamo. If fitting a dynamo - simply take the two wires off the D and F terminals. Run a new heavy duty wire from the alternator large terminal directly to the battery main +ve connection on the starter solenoid (or on the battery - doesn't matter) and use the original wire that came from the Ign Warning light and connect this instead to the small terminal on the alternator. As always - the car needs to be -ve earth for use with an alternator.

Shouldn't that be if fitting an 'alternator'?
