will a 948 gear box fit on my re built 1340 engine ?

just a quick one really , having finished rebliuding our new 1340 engine .next saturday i need to drive my 948 moggy to work, for the transplant .
ive ran out of funds so i need to know if the box will bolt on the back plate of a 1275 plate with 1275 clutch etc and will the 948 clutch fork work etc thanks for reading all comments will help

yes you need at least a 1098 moggie box, but best is midget 1275 box

It will 'fit' - provided you use the 948 flywheel and clutch assembly. BUT - that engine will soon tear it apart anyway - so a stronger gearbox and clutch would be well advised.

Why is the Midget box any better than the Moggie one as far as I know the only differences are the reverse light switch and it uses roller bearings which cost more to repair, or is there something else as well.

Seems a bit obtuse to fit the 948 box back onto a 1340 engine, as BMC says it would soon eat itself!
Have you thought about a 5 speed ford conversion? It would be well worth it considering you engine spec.

The 948 box is very weak -especially the syncromesh. 1098 box is stronger - and I am told the 1275 Midget box has better bearings - and better ratios ??

its funding realy having spend a lot of money rebliuding the engine mainly swiftune parts manifow exhaust etc just being lazy i guess using the one already in but moggy 1098 gearbox are easy to find will i have to chance the clutch fork !

Depends which flywheel and clutch you use. If you use 1098 flywheel/clutch - then 1098 box goes straight on. If you use 1275 flywheel and clutch - then you will need to try it out and see if ok before putting in the car. It's said to be a very 'fierce' clutch when used in a Minor.
