New Owner

I am now the proud owner of a Morris Minor, my first one :D. It's a series II with Cheese grater grill and all . Will post some pics as soon as I get the chance.

No doubt you'll be hearing a lot from me as I start giving the car that bit of TLC it deserves. There will be many questions asked I can tell you .

So to start off with, can anyone tell me how I can identify the size of the car's engine?

I know the original 803cc engine has been swapped but the new engine is missing the plate with the engine number on it. I looked in the original V5 paperwork but the current engine number is 'unknown'. The new V5C just shows the engine size as 1000cc. So would the current engine be a 948cc or a 1098cc?

Cheers,

Matthew

Could be either - there may be a little alloy plate low on the left side of the engine - near the exhaust - saying 950 or 1100. otherwise - look at the cylinder head - front edge just under the thermostat cover - if it has a temperature sensor (or a blanking plug) screwed in then it's a 1098 cylinder head - and therefore 'likely' to be a 1098 engine ! Has the gearbox been uprated to 'remote control' - or is it still 'magic wand' ?

Well - it could still have a later gearbox - with the long lever fitted. Although to do that to the 1098 box (which has 'ribbed' casing) is not easy - but a 948 box is straightforward enough. The original 803 box is very weak indeed - 948 a bit better, and 1098 much better.

After a week at the garage having a bit of work done to pass the MOT 'Tim' is finally sat on the drive ready to be driven. :D :D :D

Did you get the engine size yet ? And why 'Tim' - surely Wilf or similar would suit that number plate better ? Don't let it sit out in the rain - it will rot away in no time !! Looks great - you want to keep it that way - at least get a good car cover for it if you can't get it into a garage.

Yet to find out the engine size yet due to bad weather.

I've bought a decent car cover for it and he's wrapped up nice and warm now .

I really don't know why he got called Tim. lol. I was thinking of Wilf but for some reason the manageress at work came up with 'Tim' and a whole life story for him. She recons 'Tim' makes him sound posh but still one of the boys. She's mad .

But the name sort of stuck .

The link to 'Tim nice but Dim' has been mentioned many times by family members and mates since he was named .

As long as the driver isn't compared to the Harry Enfield character I don't care.

In regards to the driver I'd say "What an absolutely, thoroughly, bloody nice bloke!".

If its a 948 engine it should have "950" cast into the side of the block, cant remember what side but theres only 2 so it wont take long to look!
Great looking car, what work was needed for it pass its MOT?

Sure its not Tim as in 'Sorry' with Ronnie Corbett. Although that was a black Series 2 in that prog iirc... In which case it should be TIMOTHY!
anyway, looks a very nice car :)

Keep meaning to check the engine size but the weather we have been having lately isn't helping. Will let you all know as soon as I do

In regards to the MOT suprise supirse it was some welding that needed doing.

"Language Timothy!!"

bets on a 948 with the 803 gear box. i cant see the benefit of having an 803 box handling the blood pumping power of a 1098cc!!!!

A break in the weather allowed me to get my head under the bonnet and see what size the engine is.

It's a 948cc engine.
