Soaking in B&Q brick cleaner (£5.99 for 5 ltrs) gets things spotlessly derusted as well.
Only problem is don't leave in to soak after rust removed as the base metal will start to disolve as well

It still is, but only because I haven't sorted my sig let alone my site! It got hacked a while ago, so I don't think any of the content can be reached (all the index.php files were deleted).
One day I'll sort things out, when I'm less sacr stressed.
But the gist is take a battery charger, some wash soda crystals (not caustic soda, not Persil, but wash crystals), some water and a bit of sacrificial ferrous. Connect the pos to the ferrous, and have the rusty part hooked up to the neg. Stick all in a bucket of water with maybe a tablespoon or so of the crystals, and walk away. Do make sure you do it in a well ventialted area as it gives off hydrogen...

Oooh - if I collect the hydrogen - can I run the car on it ?
