I need to shorten the handbrake by about an inch so I need to move the button back down the lever. Any idea how to get it out?

Hold/turn/pull - I've just this second done it, since I have a handbrake on my desk and wanted to be sure I was right...

Hold the button, turn it and pull it out? Which way does it turn?
On the other hand, I could try it for myself
Thanks.

Either way - it's just sat over a plain rod

All I had to do in my 4 door was pull the handbrake on without pressing the button in - It would then fly out, bounce off the dash, and disappear under the seats...

As the floor is not in place I shall try not to lose mine on the driveway...
Thanks everybody, it sounds pretty simple.

Ahh - a 'fly -out' handbrake there Packedup!! As opposed to the more desireable 'fly-off' handbrake.

Later MM's with the friction fit can ping out which releases the handbrake, nice if you're parked on a hill!

Making sure your desk doesn't roll away?

Nope, ready for a hill start, plus the fancy turns I like to make.
