Anybody got any thoughts on this

Post by muggwump »

Was looking to upgrade my diff to a 3.9 as I have a midget engine bored out to 1340cc. I came across this.

Any thoughts?
Will it give better acceleration and top speed or just quieter operation?

It wont make any difference apart from limiting wheelspin when you take off from a standing start or use too much power coming out of a corner.

Maybe neither. What it will do is stop the inside wheel spinning when you accelerate hard out of corners, in that case, yes, it would help with acceleration.

I have a recollection of something important about these, but you may want to check this out with Quaife: they only work when both wheels are in contact with the ground. That is to say, if one wheel is in the air spinning, the other will not get any drive.

You may think that's not likely, but if your rear axle skips over a bump you'll momentarily lose drive to the other wheel. The other effect is that it won't help you if you bust a halfshaft. Plate-type diffs will get you home in this case as they can lock solid.
