So, my DAF is (hopefully) going to be MOTable next week; I didn't expect it back quite so soon - and the old owner still hasn't managed to send me anything about the car (despite repeated promises). I've got a V62 form all filled in (less the VIN number, but I haven't got the car back yet to get the vin-number off it) but was wondering...

...does anyone know if I wander down to a 'local' DVLA office whether I take my V62 with me and can tax it there and then? Or do I need to wait the 4-6 weeks for the V5 to come back?

If it is not too far, then try it. Or phone them to ask

I'm pretty sure you can't as I know someone who tried that.
If the address of previous owner hasn't changed and they fill in the paperwork sent by DVLA then it can take less than the 4-6 weeks.
If you can get the V5 tear off slip it'll mean you avoid paying the additional fee.

Sadly the car's been off the road for 3 years and she seems to be having trouble locating anything at all. Which is a bit scary considering it's all welded back together now :-/

It needs it's tax-band changing too, as it's currently expired disk states 'Disabled' on it...and although my love of classics might be called a disability by some, I think the DVLA might disagree.
