Hi all, just trying to determin which of my wheel bearings needs changing. I have the rumble but it is difficult to say exactly which wheel it is :-?
I've jacked up the front and the passenger side does have a little play when the the wheel is gripped top and bottom and moved back and forth. Is this normal or is this a sign that it is the offending bearing?

I don't think you should be able to feel any play in the bearings.

no play or just the slightest bit of play is what you want. play is not always a sign of a shot bearing.

noisy bearings can normally be found by spinning the wheel as fast as you can by hand and listen for the one that makes more noise than the other. obviously with the car jacked up.

Just be certain that the play is in the bearing. Gripping top and bottom is also a good way to detect worn trunions :-?
