The Squeak!!!!

Hi all, just wondered if anyone else has suffered from the really annoying squeak from the heater control under dash area. This is my second minor but my first one did it too! I didn't have that one long enoughto cure it but if I don't on this one it'll send me mad.
Don't get me wrong I know these old cars are more prone to this type of thing but this is really annoying and you can even hear it over the engine noise at 70mph!!
Any thoughts or experiences welcomed.

Where to start! Worn felt bush for steering column, loose pinch bolt on steering column. Speedo head, speedo cable needing greased. Probably another dozen or so that I have forgotten over the years.

When does it do it?

Mine has an intermittent squeak or rather a tinkley kind of squeak from the same vague direction.

Doesn't do it all the time and is not related to speed. And only when moving.

Found the 'Morris Minor badges were loose and thought it might be them. Same with bonnet catch spring. {Thanks Roger}

My speedo ticks. Approx 5 second intervals too.

Music to our ears :wink:

I can live with it as long as it's not something about to shear off as with my traveller water pump pulley some years ago.

I was relieved when the squeak stopped but shocked at what I originally thought was smoke billowing out from under the bonnet......was steam.....

Think I've cured it now or at least improved it. The wide air intake hose to the heater was not attached so have re attached it to the heater box and the squeak seems much less noticable :)

hummm

mine developed that squeak on the way home, but was the first time I had bothered to lift the bonnet and turn off the heat this year so I assumed it was the cold hoses squeaking with car vibration as it was silent before
